When was Jesus born? and where does this tie into Christmas and Yule?
I just been wondering that
According to the Catholic Encyclopedia at http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/03724b.htm
"Christmas was not among the earliest festivals of the Church. Irenaeus and Tertullian omit it from their lists of feasts; Origen, glancing perhaps at the discreditable imperial Natalitia, asserts (in Lev. Hom. viii in Migne, P.G., XII, 495) that in the Scriptures sinners alone, not saints, celebrate their birthday; Arnobius (VII, 32 in P.L., V, 1264) can still ridicule the "birthdays" of the gods."
So regardless of when Jesus was born he doesn't belong in Christmas. If God wanted us to celebrate the birth of his son, doesn't it seem reasonable that the Bible would have told us when he was born? Evidently, men put a lot of importance on celebrating this day when god puts no importance on observing it. And why do men put so much importance on it? Is it because of it's holiness and it's spiritual implications or is it because it is a time to receive gifts, party, and engage in a bunch of customs that we have been taught to love since we were little? Many customs that might actually displease God because of their connection to pagan beliefs.
"For what fellowship do righteousness and lawlessness have? Or what sharing does light have with darkness? Further, what harmony is there between Christ and Be´li·al? Or what portion does a faithful person have with an unbeliever? " - 2 Corinthians 6:14,15
Again the Catholic Encyclopedia says,"In England, Christmas was forbidden by Act of Parliament in 1644; the day was to be a fast and a market day; shops were compelled to be open; plum puddings and mince pies condemned as heathen. The conservatives resisted; at Canterbury blood was shed; but after the Restoration Dissenters continued to call Yuletide "Fooltide"."
