rosary Case Catholics: Some time ago my stepmother put a rosary into my son's casket at his funeral, and I took it out?
because it was an LDS funeral and I felt it out of keeping with the circumstances,In any case she told me it was blessed by Pope John Paul II in one of the open air masses on his many trips to Canada. My questions are this firstly is this still a blessed object since Pope John Paul has passed on, and secondly, did I sin by taking it out of the casket?
@ farsight no Mother did not even know I removed it
@ Raphael My son never went anywhere near the Pope the rosary did. My son was also LDS.
You stepmother should have asked your permission before doing it. Faith is intensely personal, and since it was an LDS funeral, her actions stepped over the line. The Rosary and the Pope are not relevant in an LDS funeral. While she may have had good intentions, what she did was very arrogant.
Don't think you did anything wrong. This was your son's funeral, not her's. She did not take your feelings into consideration. Unless you wiped the rosary off and threw it across the room, relax. If you did so with discretion you offended no one, and committed no sin.
It would still be considered a blessed object for those that care about Pope JP2. Just pass it along to someone who might treasure it.
I'm salvaging the remainder of my portfolio by buying cases of beer. Are you ready for End Times? ?
As a hedge against falling stocks, failing banks, inflation, and shrinking dollars I am filling my storage room with all the cases of beer I can afford. I already have 2 sets of Rosary beads.
How are you preparing
Bought mehself a place with a bombshelter; I'm stalking it up now.
I have just started reading about rosaries and prayer beads/ropes. I work at meijer (think walmart in red) and there is a piece of cosume jewelry that resembles a rosary but has ten large beads instead of the traditional five. At the time I didn't think to count the small beads but the party that goes from the circle to the crucifix has one large bead and four small ones. Does this piece have any spiritual meaning, or is it just a decorative piece of religious jewelry?

Pearl catholic Why do Catholics call eachother father?
Matthew 23:9
And call no [man] your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven. (KJV)
And do not call anyone on earth 'father,' for you have one Father, and he is in heaven. (NIV)
And don't address anyone here on earth as 'Father,' for only God in heaven is your spiritual Father. (NLT)
Rev 17-3 (KJV)
So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.
FATHER = full of names of blashpemy?
Rev 17-4 (KJV)
And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:
That cup seem familiar?

So again, Why do Catholics call eachother father?
Matthew 23:6-9 reads, "They (the scribes and the Pharisees) love places of honor at banquets, seats of honor in synagogues, greetings in marketplaces, and the salutation 'Rabbi.' As for you, do not be called 'Rabbi.' You have but one teacher, and you are all brothers. Call no one on earth your father; you have but one Father in heaven."
Are we also not to call anyone "teacher" or "doctor" which is how "rabbi' would translate? I think not.
This is call for humility for those in leadership roles. Not to be taken literally.
We are not to deny our male parent and cut the Commandment to honor our father and mother in half.
Some leaders in any church may fall into the same folly of a lack of humility as the pharisees of Jesus' day.
By the way, we also take into account the entirety of the Bible:
The Apostle Paul writes:
I am writing you this not to shame you, but to admonish you as my beloved children. Even if you should have countless guides to Christ, yet you do not have many fathers, for I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel. (1 Corinthians 4:14-15)
And:
As you know, we treated each one of you as a father treats his children, exhorting and encouraging you and insisting that you conduct yourselves as worthy of the God who calls you into his kingdom and glory. (1 Thessalonians 2:11-12)
And:
I urge you on behalf of my child Onesimus, whose father I have become in my imprisonment, who was once useless to you but is now useful to (both) you and me. (Philemon 10-11)
And finally, Peter calls himself the "father" of Mark:
The chosen one at Babylon sends you greeting, as does Mark, my son. (1 Peter 5:13)

I want to know if anyone knows about old catholic prayer books. This one is I believe written in German?
It has what appears to be a really old embossed leather cover with brass and mother of pearl flowers and a cross. Really beautiful book. I can't find a date on it, thought someone might know the era it came from. Thanks
I can't read german but on the first page it does have the name Wilhelm Nakatenus, S.J.
Without seeing the book I couldn't say for sure, but if the printing in it is of the 'Fraktur' type - ornate Gothic style script that is difficult to read - it is at least 100 years old if not more.
If it is a Catholic book it may have the name of the Pope who was reigning at the time it was published so that would give you an approximate clue as to the date.
catholic silver I want a purity ring. But I'm Catholic... Can wear one?
So, I was thinking in getting a purity ring because I want people to see that I'm waiting for my true love even thought I'm 17. Yes, I know, I'm young. I was looking for a purity ring that says "True Love Waits" but I can't find it at any store. But I found this really cute ring and it's silver and it just has a cross on it. Can I wear that as a purity ring? Oh, and I'm catholic... Can I wear it?
So I'm guessing I can wear a ring that has a cross as a purity ring? Cool.
If you're serious, you should ask your priest, but I don't know of anything in Catholicism that would prevent you from doing so.
I have approximately 200 sterling silver Catholic charms and chains - about 40 years old. Sell? Keep? Value?
i'd get them valued if you were planning on selling them,
charm bracelets are very popular at the moment and i have saw some go on ebay for lots of money,
i have a charm bracelet that i love, and i'll keep it and pass it on to my children (when i have them) just because my mum did the same for me. and i think there lovely things to have in the family
as for value, have you looked on ebay at all? and compared them against others? just an idea
