How far up to extend drywall in a post and frame building?
We have a 20X30 room built into a 30X50 metal building. Truss is on 10' spaced posts with 10' high cross member at bottom of the truss. Have a new wall, 16 oc, installed just touching the cross member of the truss. Will install the 10' drywall, which should reach the bottom of the truss cross member, after insulating the ceiling over the inside room. That leaves the rest of the truss exposed. I would guess roof line is about 14'. Thus, it leaves the same space open above the room.
Question is, should I extend the drywall on up and totally cover the outside face of the truss, thus enclosing the room's "attic"? Should I go all the way to the metal, or leave a slight space between the bottom of the 2X6 pitch boards? Ventilation is provided through eaves to both the new room and the rest of the garage area. Steve DIY Doc, valued opinion here, plus any others.
Hey, Thanks. I'm not Mighty Mouse, so I may not save the day, but certainly, I'll offer my opinions.
IF you can still have access to that equal space above, If I was doing it, I'd probably drywall all the way. If the trusses don't stricly allow the area to be well used, IE: walk around space, I'd close off the bottom "room", at whatever will be the "ceiling" height, and still want access to the space above.
Since you have ventilation issues taken care of, I wouldn't worry about a space. It seems to me that just adds to the labor effort, without any major cause and effect.
I'll assume it's steel trusses as well? At least as they support the roof? I'm trying to visualize the overall, not just interior addition. It would seem however that the 2/x30 is the primary issue, while trying to figure out a deeper sense of insulation properties above, or even some use of the space, even with trusses.

DIY Criss Cross Dress
do you really need to sand a car down befor spray painting a part of it?
so I want to spray paint a band logo (the cross buster from Bad Religion) onto the hood of my car. I've read some DIY things online saying I have to sand the area down first. What if I don't?
Also, will the paint run off in the rain or when (if) I wash it?
if it makes a difference, this is my car: http://imagecloset.com/tiny/839038
Sanding cleans the area from dirt and wax and ensure a "rougher" surface for the new paint layer to hold on to.
If all you're after is a logo, just wash the area very well to take off as much dirt and wax as possible. The only problem is that the logo will "fall off" in time. This is where vinyl stickers come in handy and have the advantage.
