Did a Jew hand Jesus over for thirty pieces of silver?
Yes, it was Judah, one of the apostles, who sold Jesus for 30 sesterces. And yes, there is a debate whether if was an agreement between Jesus and Judah so that the prophecy would be accomplished, or not. And Jesus kissed Judah. So there is a mystery. Then Judah hanged himself.
Up to that point, the Romans did not know much about Jesus, except that he was a wanted man dead or alive, since the day he got angry on a market place in front of a temple. The Romans could not care less about a wanted man from the crowd. They wanted order. When they brought Jesus to them, first Pontius Pilate washed his hands: a symbol meaning that he was not going to involve himself in such petty trial. Then the crowd screamed that they wanted a criminal, named Barabbas freed, so the Romans gave them their Barabbas and condemned Jesus so everyone would be contented and order would prevail. That's it.
However, some did not like it, and that is the story of the New Testament. But for the Romans, that is it. Jesus was not a trouble maker, and he was not such a big political move. He was not threatening Caesar. They needed a pretext and they created it.
So did the Romans for each and everything in "Asia". They had great despite for all those populations. They never understood the "Asian" mind or way of doing things. They understood only Roman order, and the money paid to Caesar.
As for Jesus' story, then it is another thing altogether and it is a matter of faith.
