Why is Jesus portrayed as literally, carrying a giant cross?
When Jesus carried the cross to the site of his execution, he carried the horizontal crossbeam, as did every other prisoner who was to be crucified. Why is Jesus portrayed in christianity a lot as actually carrying a giant cross? Is this done purposely or ignorantly?

If Jesus died on the cross but is living in heaven now, then how is that the ultimate sacrifice?
Jesus died and resurrected after 3 days. Not to insult anyone, but I would suffer for 9 hours on a cross if it meant I would live an eternity in heaven forever.
Here is what you missed.
God is a holy God. That means he is holy and sinless. There is no impurity in him at all. God cannot sin. But man does. Sin seperatss man eternally from God. When a man sins God demans death or seperation from God in fellowhsip. Not just in spirit but in body also.
No man can offer himself up as a perfect sacrfiace for sin to unite God and man.
Instead God would come in the form of man in order that he himself would become the perfect sacrafice for sin.
That means God himself would become the one man to represent all man of all their sins. The holy God took on him the weight of all the guilt and shame of al the sins of the entire world upon himself. God was reconciling the world through himself on that day. God was willing to have a part of himself go to hell for you and me and the entire world.
No man can understand that. You know your own wrongs against God. You know about your familys. You know about your friends. Then multimply that with that of all the people who lived before your time. Those living now. And those who live in the future who will sin.
That is the weight of sin that God took upon himself on that day.
But this is what the ultimate sacrafice is all about.
And God accepted only the sacrafice of himself through Jesus Christ to save all man kind.
This is why I choose to accept God's forgivness of sin.
