although a private catholic school would have a problem with you wearing another symbol of a religion other than catholic.

Atheists: Gift from a relative: cross necklace?
I am an atheist who is not out to her conservative Christian family.
I have a grandmother whom I love and respect very much. I would never think of telling her I am atheist because it would only be cruel and cause her lots of pain. What would you do with this gift?
those of you criticising me for not wanting to wear a cross: would you want to wear a symbol of atheism (or insert something else you don't agree with here) around your neck? i didn't think so.

Say thank you, put it in your jewelry box, and never wear it. Its the thought that counts anyway. If she asks why you don't wear it, just tell her that it means so much to you that it would hurt if you accidentally lose it.
Oh and I did the same thing with my grandmother. She's over 80 and a fairly good Catholic with heart problems. Better not to tell her.
*sighs* as for the "not telling people the truth thing" that some on here are talking about... to them I say... whats better? Giving your Christian grandmother with heart problems a heart attack because you think her religion is crap? Or just keep it to yourself to protect her?
