Religious crosses Are crosses in Italian mountains religious or commemorative?
I saw crosses dotted over all the high peaks in the Italian Dolomites, and was wondering what their significance is.
I can think of 3 possibilities, and was wondering if it was one, two or all of them:
1. a celebration of Christianity.
2. safe passage/against disasters.
3. commemorative of people who've died on the mountains?
Years ago and even now in Italy a statue of Our blessed Mother and Crucifixes were put here and there to make it easy for people to remember God through the day. Remember, Italy was all catholic at one point and the peasants didn't have the transportation to travel to the towns or villages to worship the way they wanted to. Also the bells could be heard through the mountain sides so the villagers were able to know when to stop and pray the Angles. God was present in their lives daily. Even in the towns you see in an alcove a Statue of Our Lady or a Saint or a cross of Our Lord. Prayer was a big part of the Italians life.

catholic Medal What does the rosary signify and how does it work when praying?
What do catholics do with the rosary? It looks like its being fiddled with, but I know it means something - just don't know what. Also what do the medals mean and are they different on every rosary?
Rosary has only 2 objects that are not beads. one is a Cross and I'm pretty sure the other is a trinity medal. They may look different but every rosary has a cross and one other medal used as a connecting piece. The rosary can be made as small as a metal ring you hold with tiny knobs.. all the way up to a 15 decade one. It's simply for prayer, Mostly the "Hail Mary", and is often used in relation to the stations of cross.
You don't do it for your wishes to come true as a rule. It's not a magic device it's supposed to be a tool of devotion.
